Thanks to the volunteers, Village Council and to the Sabina Police Department for their help in preparations and conversations today! We selected Sabina Park once again as this shelter was burned down just a couple of years ago and with the support of the village, insurance, and volunteers, it stands once again!

Great event, but not well publicized or attended by Sabina residents.
Once the Agenda was shared, the following topics were addressed:
Danielle Johnson – Sabina Mayor – The Village Voice was something she was very pleased with as were most of the Village residents. But the cost to print an add to water bills or other village communication put a stop to this. We are hoping that it will be back but on the Village’s website soon! She noted that sharing information at Village gas stations, restaurants and the Library were ways to get the word out on things like the Hike & Bike this past Saturday and the Town Hall meeting from tonight. Residents can help with word of mouth. The photos below show the ground breaking of Sabina Park for the new playground equipment. Autumn in Eden will be on October 10, 2026 from 2-9pm. Vendors have until September 1 to register for the event. The Christmas tree lighting downtown will be on December 1, 2026.
Jonathan McKay – Village Administrator – Shared the many places around the village with broken pavement are due to gas line replacement, water main breaks (9 this year) and wear and tear. Other places are due to work by Altafiber. Jonathan will be talking to Altafiber next Monday about upgrading the boxes and lids around the village. Most of the light green ones are only strong enough for a larger person. The new brown ones are strong enough to support a car or truck. Jonathan echoed the thanks to Steve Carroll for his efforts in and around the village, including recent cold patches of holes in the roads around town. He noted that keeping the Sabina Pool up and running is a constant labor of love by many in the Village. But it is hard to keep up with due to its age. Still, funds from upcoming events are planned to go back to the pool for next year! He also thanks Steve, Rob and Wes for their help on the pool lately. He noted that he will be working with the EMA at Wilmington to help ensure our local emergency sirens go off when needed and are always working. Last, he said his position at Village Administrator is to solve problems. So if you need a problem solved, try to make time for him.
Jeff Lemmons – Interim Sabina Police Chief – Jeff noted that he has 14 years in law enforcement before coming to Sabina, and has served the Village for a year and half already! He wants his officers to always be community focused, not just officers in cars. He wants the residents of Sabina to feel comfortable with him and his officers, and he expects his officers to treat the village residents the same way. He noted he is currently fully staffed with 5 officers including himself. Jeff said the department is preparing to start doing warnings and citations for parking violations. This includes any vehicle that has been sitting for over 72 hours. Offenders will first be warned, and then will be given citations. The first is $25, the second is $50 and the next is $100. Other citations may be for parking in front of fire hydrants, not being 2′ from a curb, etc. He noted that Sabina’s National Night Out will be on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 from 6pm – dusk at Sabina Park Shelter House. This will include fireworks, free food and drinks, and giveaways. Vendors will be Kona Ice and Moose Lodge 1244, emergency vehicles will be on site too.
Amy McCoy Howard – Village Council and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee – Wanted to thank the committees and staff who have worked so hard for the Sabina Pool to be open and functioning well this year.
