04/14/26 Minutes

Our April 2026 meeting notes are as follows:

  1. New Chief – Chief Joe Voshall said that things are going well for him so far and his new officers are quickly getting into a routine and are even doing some training!
  2. Call for Help – The Chief mentioned that some residents have been doing more than just observing and reporting concerns. Some are confronting those they have concerns about, putting themselves at risk for push-back. Joe recommends residents pay attention to concerns and monitor them, but to call for Police intervention before things get out of hand.
  3. No Dispatcher – One thing I had not known before, there is no dispatch in the Sabina Police Department. Officers who are at the station can help with calls, but when they are all out on calls or patrolling, there is no one to answer calls. So use 911 or call the Clinton County Sheriff’s department for them to dispatch officers in the Village.
  4. Flock Cameras – The new Flock cameras in the Village have not been fully upgraded as the company that sells them have not fulfilled some of what they promised the Village and the Chief is working with the Village Solicitor on that.
  5. Bad Railroad Crossings – Railroad crossing issues are still pending, but still an issue. The IORY is getting closer, but not to the Village yet. Have issues? Call the issues in.
  6. Water/Sewer – When asked about the status of the Village’s water/sewer status, the Chief said some key mains had been repaired and that was making much of the water concern better.
  7. Watch Signs – Even though we got new Neighborhood Watch signs last year with QR codes to our site, they had not been put up. The Chief is working with the Village to get that done. Roger (me) has provided the Google Map of existing sign he did last year to the Chief so they can get to this soon, then use the old signs in other neighborhood that have no signs or contact info.
  8. Dumpster Days – As noted before, the so called “Dumpster Days” will be on Saturday, April 25th and Saturday, May 2nd across from Sabina Park. Village residents can take trash and junk to the dumpsters and dispose of them for free. Just have to haul it up there.
    • Trail Cleanup – Roger Starnes, Neighborhood Watch Chair, is also on the Clinton County Trail Coalition and the Clinton-Fayette Friendship Trail that runs from Melvin Road to North Borum Road will under go a volunteer clean-up during this time too. If you can help, wear some boots, old clothes, and take some trash bags and you can help! Just leave filled bags tied up just off the trail as you go.
  9. New Restaurant – The new Briar’s Family Restaurant is planning to open the week of April 20, 2026! They are located where Traditions used to be. Please check them out on Facebook here.
  10. Grocery Store – Sunny, the new owner of the Sabina Food Market in town is working hard to make the store better than ever with fresher foods and goods as well as prepared meals in the deli. Please check them out on Facebook and try to support them.
  11. Police Levy – The Sabina Police Department levy is on the ballot again for the November election. This is a levy that continues what has already been in place not a request for new money. The Police Department is in very good shape and that will help residents and new business alike. Please do your part to let Village Council know you support the SPD at the next Council meeting if you can?
  12. Sabina Pool – Last year so many things went wrong in trying to re-open the swimming pool. But most of those issues have been taken care of and the Sabina Swimming Pool is scheduled to open on time and be working this year! You can see membership information on the Village’s Pool Page here.
