06/09/26 Minutes

Below is the information discussed at our meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2026…

  1. Police Department Updates:
    • Interim Sabina Police Chief Jeff Lemmons will be serving for 90 days before being voted on and sworn in.
    • The Sabina Police force is now at 5 full-time officers and 1 part-time officer.
    • Letters to homeowners of Sabina were passed out this past Monday for lawns that were overgrown. The Village will mow the lawns to code and the home owners will be charged for the service through their Village taxes until they take care of the properties on their own.
    • Neglected homes with garbage and junk will also be served letters in the coming weeks.
  2. Local Events to Share:
    • The car show at Sabina Park last week had a total of 105 cars on display! Great job owners and spectators!
  3. July “Town Hall” Event:
    • Our quarterly “Town Hall” event will be on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the COVE or at the new shelter at Sabina Park… (?)
    • Residents are encouraged to bring items to celebrate and ask for support on with regard to residency in Sabina.
    • The Sabina Police may have their side-by-side at the event again this year… (?)
  4. Sabina E-Alerts Status:
    • Donna Clevenger, member of the Sabina Neighborhood Watch team, was looking into why this system has not been providing alerts to those of us who are signed up. At this time we have not heard an answer on this. If this has been down due to staffing issues, we are trying to see if we can get it taken care of and back online.
  5. Behavioral Health Building:
    • This was a question for last month too, but since May no activity has been noted on the property until this week. Interim Chief Jeff Lemmons said that a crew was doing trenching work at the site this week. So hopefully they are still on track.
  6. Briar’s Restaurant:
    • While much of the Village is very happy that Briar’s is in Sabina and seems to have a great menu and food, many of us residents are still having trouble finding time to dine there. Please try to stop in as you are able here and at other local restaurants.
  7. Village Bike Day/Meal:
    • Neighborhood Watch Chair, Roger Starnes, still hopes to meet with Chris Breckel on the plans for a breakfast/meal and bike path event this summer. But for now, there were too many other summer events pending for focus on this. If you are interested in this, please see Councilman Breckel or contact Roger Starnes on this site.
  8. Trash  Around Village Businesses:
    • One of our other team members asked about the amount of trash around many Sabina businesses and asked if there was something we could do to help reduce that or eliminate it. It was suggested we reach out to residents of Sabina and see if some may want to adopt sites in town that are frequently full of trash and clean them up for some self-promotion. Just like you see sites around the state where roadways are adopted by a church, family or business and they do all the dirty work. But their work is publicly thanked! Interested? Pick a site and let us know if you want to sponsor a clean-up.
  9. Sabina Village Yard Sale:
    • Quoting the Village’s Facebook page…
Yard Sale Participants Wanted! – The Village-wide Yard Sales will be held June 12–13. If you would like your address included on the official list of participating locations, please submit your address by June 8. – You can send us a message here on Facebook or contact the Water Department to be added to the list. – We look forward to another great community yard sale weekend!
  10. Sabina Private Businesses:
    • Just a reminder that there are many small, private or family-owned businesses that you might look at. Aside from the list on this site, there are other home businesses that do seal coating, take photos, make food, watch kids, etc. Have a business like that? Share it here or on our Facebook page and we’ll help promote you. Yes, we are a Neighborhood Watch group, but a healthy village is a better one.
  11. Music Festivals:
    • It was shared at our meeting tonight that one very popular event in villages and towns around Sabina are Music Festivals. It was suggested that Sabina look into this after the Fall Festival concert on 729 last year was so popular! Check with the Village Council and with the Mayor on this.
  12. Local Meeting Places:
    • Another way to help keep a small village like Sabina out is to make sure there are places in the village for residents and businesses to meet and show off their products or services. There are places. The Village Municipal building has a room upstairs that can be rented monthly and has a good bit of seating and tables. The Masonic Lodge also has space to rent out. Know of more places? Share with us!
  13. Roadway Holes Being Repaired:
    • Sabina residents all know the issues with the many water line and gas line repairs that have left gaping holes in the roadways for the past several months. There is one down the street from my house on the corner of Hulse and Florence. There is an even bigger one at the entry to the Police Station and Municipal building. There are certainly many more. But they are supposed to be on the list of getting fixed soon!

Many of the things listed above may seem more of a Village issue, not a Neighborhood Watch issue. But a good Neighborhood Watch group secures the welfare and betterment for the cities, towns and villages they serve. We live here, and so do you. So let’s work together to make Sabina once more be the “Eden of Ohio”!
